31st December

What a good way to end the year plenty of good quality fish and a boat full of very happy clients. Today our good friend and regular client mika from Finland caught a nice Atlantic tuna on the lightest rod on the boat, exiting stuff and really good fishing. we also had more tuna, some red snappers and a big barracuda. What an excellent end to the year.

Today was definitely a day of 2 halves with 5 rays,2 Atlantic tuna and an assortment of smaller fish this morning but the afternoon produced only a lizard fish and 1 common sting ray. Its a funny old game this fishing.

With the arrival of our first storm this year, today was a much better day for the fish than the fishermen. we did however manage to keep fishing all day and the results were 3 sting rays two turtles and a lot of smaller fish. The weather has made sure we cant fish tomorrow but I suppose 1 or 2 days a year is not bad.

We had quite a problem today trying to get a decent sized bait past the smaller species of fish on the reef. We did however manage to catch a nice angel shark, a fair sized sting ray and a couple of big sea bream before we decided to get the very light rods out and see how many of the little pests we could catch. The result was no stop action and no idea how many we caught but easily 100s.So not to many specimen fish but a good day was had by all aboard.

We changed the time of our trip today at our clients request so they could have a drink on there last night and a lay in this morning. The fishing was also unusual being very slow for the first 4 hours and virtual mayhem for the last 2 during which time our Swedish couple managed to drag an enormous turtle to the boat, Dale and Yan from Denmark both caught good sized rays and Tim Riches from England also had his first ever sting ray.

Well done to all on board. I think today was a very good example of our policy to take less fishermen to catch more fish which is why we take a maximum of only 6 fishermen per trip.

24th November

Today was our last day fishing for a couple of weeks due to every body needing a holiday. We start fishing again on the 7th of December.
Today was another day of contrasts with the longer morning trip producing very few sizable fish, but in the afternoon it was a different story with 5 good sized rays and some very big gar fish. I cant stress enough how much fun these 5lb to 8lb gar fish are when caught on the light carp rods we are using.

Another day of reef fishing with not so many specimen fish but a few nice rays and Atlantic tuna. We also saw a small group of Wahoo one of which took one of the live baits we were using but on the carp rods we use for catching tuna, barracuda and garfish etc for excellent sport fishing the odds were obviously in the fishes favour and after a short but very exiting battle the fish was gone. maybe tomorrow.

We had our first sign of winter today, with a strong breeze blowing our morning trip unfortunately was restricted to fishing a sheltered inshore mark which unusually produced very little. However by the afternoon a slight improvement allowed to fish a more regular location, which provided us with some good fishing. We had a couple of rays some very big gar fish a big angel shark and what I think must be a new record, three turtles which are of course treated very well (which is not always easy with a 50k angry turtle) and released unharmed.

6th July 2007

Today was the first of many charters over the next couple of weeks for our regular visitors James Rasmussen and Cees Pippin. Wth the weather being almost perfect [for laying on the beach] the blue marlin 3 along with all the other boats in Puerto Rico failed to catch any noteworthy fish. we did however see some good sized dorado which couldn’t be encouraged to feed.
With quite a noticeable change in the wind we decided to go trolling again this afternoon. This proved to be another good decision as we managed to raise two white marlin, one of which after some quick and inventive thinking by the crew was successfully hooked up. However after about a 20 minute battle on light tackle the fish managed to shed the hook and make his escape.
an unfortunate day but some good signs so maybe tomorrow.

He was also able to witness Craig Sommerville catching a 45kg turtle, well done Craig and better luck with the marlin next time Tim.

Today again we had a Blue Marlin, making this number 5 this season. The Marlin first took the lure of Simon who is owner of the “Harbour Lights” English pub in Puerto Rico. He was on board today as part of his birthday celebration. Unfortunately after a nice run the Marlin got away. He was still however interested and came back for a second time to the rod of Ramon Van Rouwe from Holland. Ramon had a fight of about 25 minutes to bring the Marlin to the boat for tagging before release. The fish was estimated at 225 kilo and was on an 80lb class rod. Well done to all on board BM3 for our morning trip.

After the success of the morning trip we decided to go trolling again this afternoon. A wise choice as we had a spectacular show from a hooked up marlin. We think this was a very hungry fish as it attacked 3 lures making good contact with them all, alternatively there may have been 2 fish as all this action happened very quickly.Unfortunatley after some spectacular jumps the fish managed to throw the hook and escape. We did however manage to catch a very good sized dorado as a consolation prize.

First this morning we again tried the trolling method, we saw a blue marlin behind the boat but he was not really interested in the lures and carried on its way. The second half of the trip was reef fishing which brought some nice rays.

The afternoon trip was also again on the reef where we had some nice rays and some smaller fish.

20th June 2007

Today was a day full of action. First we sighted many dolphins, then we hooked up with a blue marlin around 10.15 am. After a few minutes he got away. Still looking ahead to the rest of the trip and at 2.15 pm we hooked up with another blue. He came on the rod of Daniel Syder, a young lad. It was not possible for him to fight this monster so his companion Duncan Adams took to the fighting chair. After spending a while with the rod and line it was passed to Kees Gillesen who eventually got the fish to the boat. Just as he was about to be tagged the marlin took a very deep run and got entangled around the tail by the line. Unfortunately this action brought a sad end to the story as the fish did not survive.

After the large amount of fish sightings this morning the decision was made for the pm trip also to go trolling. A white marlin was seen looking at the lures at the back of the boat but was only curious and did not take the lure, so no fish this afternoon.

19th June 2007

Trolling all day today. Only 1 fish caught but it was a new boat record Dorado. This beautiful fish was caught by the Dutch angler Leo van Antwerpen. It weighed in at 17kg 150g. Well done Leo!

We also today had a pm trip, again bottom fishing. On this trip we had not so many fish. Some rays and a large barracuda, but again our anglers had a very nice time.

22nd May 2007

Today we were unable to sail on our morning trip as our captain was unavailable due to circumstances out of our control. Because of this the clients from the Blue Marlin 3 were offered a trip on the boat ¨Cavalier”. Each of these clients chose to take the option and so went trolling with Abraham and his partner Haffid. They caught on this trip a Blue Marlin weighing 330kg and this fish was brought on board. This would not be the policy on Blue Marlin 3. However we congratulate Scott Redd from Switzerland (originally from the USA) on the capture of this magnificent fish. Well done Scott!!

The afternoon trip was able to go ahead as planned, and the clients had a good time bottom fishing. We chose not to go to the usual spot as it was quite windy. Here we had 2 large kingfish,3 rays brought to the boat and several more monster rays got away. Lars Svensson who joined us on board with his friends is also the holder of our boat record boque from February 2005.

21st May 2007

Today we had a lot of wind off the coast of Puerto Rico, so bottom fishing was very difficult. After staying a while and catching just one bonito the decision was to go troling.. After just a while we had caught a nice 5kg dorado, then later we had a hook up from a Blue Marlin. The fish was on the line for just a few minutes but spectacularly took 500 meters of line off the reel before shaking off the hook. So today the winner was the Blue Marlin.
